FAQ
What does “Magus” mean?
Roughly, it means “Magic” or “Magical”.
How do you pronounce Magus?
That depends on who you ask. Anna pronounces it Mage-us, Grace calls it May-gus, and our friend Sam says it the old-school Latin way. We’re not sure what Emily’s calling it. You can pronounce it any way you like, and we’ll still know what you’re talking about.
Where is this taking place?
At Chestnut Ridge Park, in beautiful Bruceton Mills, West Virginia, USA.
Why West Virginia?
Because the three of us planning it are all in the WV/VA area, and so we wanted something close that we knew would be simply awesome.
When is Magus happening?
June 20-22, 2008. Put it on your calendar now!
Does Magus cost money, or is it free?
To attend Magus, you will have to register and there will be a fee for registration and lodging. However, one of the goals in planning Magus was to make it an extremely affordable event, so the fees won’t be outrageous. All of your meals, the shows, and everything else for the weekend will be covered. Plus, it’s a benefit event… we’ll be raising money to donate to The Shelley A. Marshall Foundation. More details will be released soon.
Wait, this is a benefit event?
Yes! One of the coolest things about wizard rock is how willing everyone is to help others out, and so in that spirit we’ll be raising money through Magus to benefit the Shelley A. Marshall Foundation. It’s an amazing foundation that has sponsored children’s story hours at libraries, intergenerational tea parties, and creative writing contests in the WV/VA area. It’s all done in honor of Shelley Marshall, who died in the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon. For more information on the foundation, check out the website at www.shelleysfoundation.org
Can I register for Magus right now?
Not yet! We’re still working out some of the last details, but registration should open soon… we’ll let you know!
I’m in a wizard rock band… can I play at Magus?
At this point, we have confirmed 18 bands. If you are a band that’s planning to attend Magus and would like to perform, send an e-mail to magusgoblins@gmail.com and we’ll do our best to include you. There will also be plenty of opportunities for fireside jamming and the like.
Where are we staying?
If you choose to stay overnight at the park, you will be tent camping. Trust us, it’s not as scary as it sounds. You’ll be able to rent a tent spot with a total of four people, so start getting your friends together now! Tents will be available for rent if needed. If special accommodations are required, please contact us at magusgoblins@gmail.com.
What’s the weather going to be like?
Well, generally warm, although nights can be cold, so bring a good sleeping bag. It’s impossible to predict what the day-to-day weather will be this early in advance, however. Just prepare for anything, and we will give you more accurate details closer to the festival.

Emily alters her ways of saying it. Sometimes it’s May-gus, sometimes it’s just plain Ma-gus.

I’m trying to get my parents to let me to go! I can’t wait for this. I live in West Viriginia, and when Harry and the Potters/Draco and the Malfoys/Gred and Forge/the Whomping Willows came to Charleston I was so stoked to go.
I really hope the tickets aren’t costly because my parents have to go, too. I really hope I can go! I thank you each greatly for this.
If you ever need any help with anything, please feel free to ask me. =)

One of our goals is to keep Magus very affordable, so you’ll be able to afford travel expenses. There will be options to help you keep costs down, so don’t worry! Registration prices will be announced in the new year.
